Sources have stated that Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor and Mahindra & Mahindra recorded another year of podium finish in India’s passenger vehicle market. The notable changes on the 2016 top 10 lists were Tata Motors climbing to the fourth position, ahead of Honda Cars that saw a steep drop in sales, and Nissan claiming the ninth spot, pushing Volkswagen to the tenth.



Driven by the hugely successful Kwid small car, Renault overtook Ford with a nearly two-and-half-fold expansion and came close to unseating Toyota from the sixth spot, but ended less than 2,000 units short of the Japanese rival.

Meanwhile last year Tata Motors sold 1,64,123 units in India compared to 1,56,107 units sold by the local units of the Japanese carmaker Honda Cars. Tata Motors on the back of Tiago recorded a growth of 3 percent in domestic sales in 2016 while Honda Cars sales in India tanked by of 23 percent in the same month. Tata Tiago has also broken into the top ten selling cars list in India in the month of November. 



Toyota Kirloskar Motor had experienced negative sales for 2016 at 4 percent and stood at sixth position by selling 1, 34,149 units in 2016 as against 1,39,819 units during 2015. Toyota Kirloskar Motor launched the much awaited next generation of Innova, its successful MPV, named Innova Crysta at a starting price of Rs 13,83,677. During May, Crysta outsold Hyundai Creta in passenger vehicle.
