Mumbai sources have stated that Tata Motors on Wednesday launched the premium Tata Hexa SUV priced between Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 17.50 lakh and managing director Gunter Butschek called it just the beginning. The company plans a dedicated utility vehicle modular platform to meet future norms.



Meanwhile Tata Motors, after having reclaimed some lost share in the car market with the Tiago hatchback, is attempting to make a comeback in the utility vehicle space with two to three new products. The company on Wednesday launched the premium Hexa SUV priced between Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 17.50 lakh and managing director Gunter Butschek has called it just the beginning. There is a range of SUVs that company has lined up for launch from the Nexon to take on compact soft roaders like the Ford EcoSport and Maurti Vitara Brezza to plush and performance vehicle like a new Safari Storm.

“There is much more in the UV segment for us, there is much more you can expect from Tata Motors in the latter half of this year. This is our return in the utility vehicle segment,” he said. “We understand that customer segments have changed and they are seeking more utility lifestyle products and that is what we intend to offer in the future.” The SUV that is set to make its market entry later this year is the compact Nexon.



According to several people in the know, Tata Motors will be moving towards two modular vehicle architectures in the future. These will give it the flexibility make several models on the same platform. The X4 architecture will form the basis of future cars and small compact UVs. There is also a separate utility vehicle architecture that has been conceived. It is likely to replace the Safari Storm and spawn out a number of new utility vehicles in the premium segment.
