The 2017 Volkswagen Touareg will be a 5 seater SUV and will be placed above the Tiguan SUV for the global market. It will also be placed above the Atlas, which is currently in the company’s Chinese and American line up.
The Volkswagen Touareg was a part of the preview
that the company had showcased at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show. The concept
model held a plug in hybrid model under the hood. It engine is capable of
developing a maximum power of 386 bhp and a peak torque of 700 Nm. The system
could also run in full electric mode for up to 80 kms. Moreover, all the
variants of the SUV are expected to come with AWD (all wheel drive) drive train.
Aesthetically, the 2017 Volswagen Touareg will come with a more angular design and LED lighting treatment on the front. The shape looks a little similar to the bigger Atlas, but has more round wheel arches, bigger front grille and shorter wheelbase. However, the design is expected to be more similar to the Tiguan. Both the front as well as the rear lamp clusters will be horizontally placed, just like what we had seen on its preview event at the Beijing Motor Show last year.
Volkswagen is working very hard in order to keep
the Touareg up to the mark and very much in line against its key rivals like
the 2018 BMW X5 and the Volvo CX90. Volkswagen has not yet confirmed any
specific launch date for this SUV, but it is expected to be revealed towards
the latter part of this year.
