'Vetrivel' is a template family drama with 'Sasikumar' formula. The movie has a strong casting and a village backdrop. The debutate director Vasantamani has chosen a simple plot and he has also provided Sasikumar his comfort zone. A rural backdrop and Sasikumar is owner of a fertilizer shop. He has a baby brother and he is a happy going guy. Ilavarasu and Renuka has done role of his parents. Sasikumar's brother falls in love with Prabhu’s daughter a big shot in nearby village. A simple guess Sasikumar takes in charge for his brother’s love and brings back the team from Nadaodigal to kidnap Prabhu’s daughter and by mistake they kidnap Nikhila. So Sasikumar faces more trouble and how he solves these chaos forms the entire plot.
Sasikumar is solid in this role. Seems he has got tailor made role and he makes flawless contribution. But we have seen this a gazillion times. Mia George as professor in Agricultural college plays lady love and she is gorgeous. Nikila as a helpless girl has done a neat job. Thambi Ramaiah provides some laughter at places. Prabhu has done a meaty role and he has once again done justice to the role.
Technical wise the movie is pretty weak. Even though running time is just 141 minutes, we feel as if watching a lengthy drama. That is a big minus for the movie. D.Imman's music is also sloppy at places. He sums up with background score. SR Kathir's cinematography is attractive and he makes it simple. No special efforts needed for this rural drama. Imman should definitely make up better next time. Screenplay should have been a lot better. This kind of movies needs such a routine screenplay with some twist to the tale. But that never happened here.
A typical rural drama with similar story and predictable screenplay. What makes this movie little watchable is the casting and technicians. Music is below par. Sasikumar scores once again in his tailor made role. But that is not just everything. The movie is still enjoyable at parts due to its humorous dialogues and situations.
