Piku (Deepika Padukone) is an architect by profession and at the same time, she is also a daughter of an overbearing father Bhaskar Banerjee (Amitabh Bachchan). Bhaskar deals with constipation issues which is actually psychological than physical. Rana Chaudhury (Irrfan Khan) owns a taxi service which Deepika has hired to take her to and fro from her office. Now when no when agrees to take Bhaskar and Piku to Kolkata, his ancestral city after a sudden and severe breathing problem, Rana, decides to take them to Kolkata, even though he is hates every bit of it. The rest of the movie is all about their weird and interesting journey.
There are bad actors, there are good actors and then there is Amitabh Bachchan, who is out of this world. He plays a mentally and physically constipated dad with sheer perfection. He is outstanding in a few scenes including the one where he introduces Piku. Rest of the protogonists including Irrfan and Deepika have done a tremendous job of making their characters real and and likable. The two actors are funny and their chemistry is sure something to watch out for. Also the lovely father daughter relationship shown between Deepika and Irrfan is unique and lovable.
Shoojit Sircar is a marvellous director and the fact is evident seeing his previous ventures. This one too is a film superbly satisfying and deals with a father daughter angle like never before. It showcases the problems faced by a father and daughter rather than only showing their love for each other. They fight and make-up. The movie is all heart and leaves you awed with its natural and realistic touch. However, the movie has its share of flaws. For instance the film fails to explores that Piku-Rana tangent, which would have been a good angle and the amount shown is quite refreshing. Also the second half of the film is all about Bengalis. From pictures of Satyajit Ray to the tunes of Manna Dey’s Jibone Ki Pabona from Teen Bhuner Pare, it has everything that will make the Bengalis staying out of the city nastalgic. But for people, who havent visited the city before, they may fail to understand the puns. Also the film is pretty situational, especially the humour. While the screenplay is flawless, editing too is perfect.

The performances are flawless and the quirky humor may leave you in splits.
