Devaraya Review: Story
Dora Babu [Srikanth] is play boy of Amalapuram, who is completely into enjoying his life along with his gang. Swapna [Vidisha] comes into Dora babu life and both fall in love with each-other. While their love episode taking a happy turning with engagement, Dorababu get to know about an unfinished work of great king 'Sri Krishna Devaraya' to his surprise, he is the one to complete that work and he may need to sacrifice his life in the process. What is the unfinished work of ‘Devaraya’? How Dora Babu is connected to 'Sri Krishna Devaraya' ? Why he has to sacrifice his life? Did Dora babu finished and sacrificed his life has to be seen on silver screen.
Devaraya Review : Star Performances
With two performance oriented characters of different genres, Srikanth offers an impressive show as Dorababu and Sri Krishna Devaraya. He entertains audience in first half as spoiled brat casanova of Amalapuram and in second half he convinced audience as Royal King with good dialogues and getup. Vidisha as Swapna has less role to play but managed with her glamour show in songs. Meenakshi Dixit made her presence felt with good 'classical dance' moves. Comedy of MS. Narayana, Jeeva, Kondavalasa is not impressive. As the movie continue to focus and revolves around Srikanth, there is nothing much to mention about remaining actors in this film.
Devaraya Review : Direction, Music & Technical Aspects
Nani Krishna made his debut as director and also as producer with this flick. This double pressure on his head seem to have effected outcome of this film. While he was successful in selecting a good story, failed to capitalize on it, due to weak screenplay and unsupported music. Eventually he could not present the much hyped unfold story of Sri Krishna Devaraya per audience expectations. Cinematography by Poorna is good, he canned songs beautifully and even the flashback episodes were shot well.
Music given by Chakri is not up to the mark, especially his background score is awful. Story by Veera Babu Basina is impressive but Ravi Reddy Mallu's screenplay spoils the show and turns out to be big minus.
Devaraya Review : Analysis
Handling a film with Socio-Fantasy theme demands quite hard work, big budget and risky at box office. Makers of this film and the debut director should be appreciated for their bravery in dealing with the story of great king 'Sri Krishna Devaraya'. Devaraya has great place in the hearts of Telugu's, Legendary performances by NTR and SVR as Devaraya made him much respectable iconic figures of Telugu land. Movie takes-off on jolly note with few comedy scenes. First half filled with three songs, little skin show from heroines, along with tiny entertainment quotient which make you feel the movie as above-average-non-boring one. Second half is where the untold story of king Sri Krishnadevaraya comes into play and director failed to bring required royalness and rich look to ‘Devaraya’ character. Short time-span of most spoken flash back episodes didn't gave required run time to elevate Devaraya character. Reincarnation part of Dorababu as ‘Devaraya’ supposed to be key part of the film but stands out to be one of the boring episode. Graphics work was disappointing. Followed with wonderful performance from Srikanth, This story could have been better told as a chandamama tale by taking 'some king' reference but bringing 'Sri Krishnadevaraya' into story and not handling the episode properly are big let downs.
