Sishtla Sreeramamurthy Janaki fondly known as S.Janaki is an Indian Playback Singer and 'Occasional' Music composer. She is one of the best known playback singers in SOuth India and she has recorded more than 48,000 Songs to her name in South Indian languages. Her career started in 1957 and it is progressing even after five decades. Her mesmerizing voice has definitely haunted most of them and today she enters 79 ! We bring you some of the interesting facts from her profession.



• She has sang in 15 Regional Languages and in some foreign languages too. But she has sang most number in her native language Malayalam.


• She has Four National Awards and 31 Different State Film Awards. In 2013, she denied Padma Bhishan award by Government of India and said it is 'Too Late' and she also lashed out at the Government stating that South Indian Artists were never given recognition


• She is awarded honorary doctorate from the University of Mysore and the Kalaimamani award from Tamil Nadu State Government.


• The Toughest song in her whole career is in Kannada language. The song "Shiva shiva ennada naaligeyeke" from the movie Hemavathi is the toughest one in her career. This song has two different ragas and it was composed by L.Vaidyanathan. KS Chitra said, no one can even touch this song.


• She learnt music from Sree Paidiswamy, a nadaswaram teacher.
