Sources have stated that Pathanamthitta has got three representatives in the seven member standing committee of the recently reconstituted Kerala State Sports Council, which was held recently.
It is stated that the Arjuna Award winner and international shuttle badminton player, George Thomas, along with T.I. Manoj, Head of Physical Education Department at the Vellayani Agricultural College, and S. Rajeev, senior vice-president of the Kerala Olympic Association, have found their place in the seven-member standing committee of the State Sports Council.
Meanwhile George Thomas, hailing from Kuttoor near Thiruvalla, had won the national singles title in 1990 and the doubles title with Jaseel P. Ismail in 1992 and he was a member of the Indian team that bagged a silver medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
Sources have stated that Mr. Rajiv was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 2002 in recognition of his contribution to Indian Badminton and he will represent India at the Rio Olympics as technical member.
