Director Hari is one of the reliable commercial directors in Tamil film industry. Right now he directs Suriya for 'Singam 3' which is the third installment in 'Singam' franchise. However Hari directed 'Saamy' in 2003 before 'Singam'. That was the first cop story he made.
The movie was a huge blockbuster and that was the first movie to give Trisha a new identity as an actress. The movie was remade in Telugu as 'Lakshmi Narasimha' and that featured Balayya and Askin in lead roles. Famous villain Kota Srinivasa Rao also made his debut in Tamil with this project.
