Sources have made a statement that initially there was a talk from neighboring Tamilnadu about the film was face-saving for the makers of SPYder. The movie had bi-lingual release and the critics in Telugu-speaking states unanimously called it a failure. However, across the border, the film was getting decent reviews. Since the critics and audiences there looked at Mahesh minus his star image, they were more welcoming to him.

Moreover this raised hopes for the makers. But the latest from Tamilnadu is that the film might not cross Rs 10 crore share mark. Since the film was bought for Rs 18 crores apart from expenses, the film is likely to lose nearly half the investment. Furthermore in the Telugu states, Mahesh's film has been doing equally bad. In Nizam, which happens to be a stronghold of Mahesh, the film has only made a few lakhs share. And it is almost next to impossible for the film to make money now.

Overall the film has lost nearly Rs 60 crore in theatrical business. And given the high prices at which it was bought, SPYder has set new records in loss-making. Currently still, despite two back-to-back flops, Mahesh's fans are looking forward to Mahesh's next being directed by Koratala Siva.
