Damarukum Review: Story

Andhakasura is sole demon [rakshasa] who managed to survive the battle between Gods & Demons. His only chance to regain powers and take revenge on Gods is to marry Maheshwari [Anushka] who born during “Pancha Graha Kootami” and get control over the world. Mallikharujna [Nagarjuna] is the only hope to stop this dangerous activity. How come Malli became the savior of world, Relation between Malli and Mahi, What does he do to stop Andhakasura has to be seen on silver screen.

Damarukum Review : Star Performances

King Nag as Malli has done a fabulous job with the character which gave scope for class-mass-family, all types of emotions. Nagarjuna, Such a big hero, letting the movie revolve around the story rather hero character should be applauded and hopefully other BIG heroes to practice this. Ravi Shankar looked apt as demon with the scary voice modulation and experssions. Yet again, Anushka has mesmerized audience with her charm. She managed to appear gorgeous with out disturbing the given divine character & also few good dance moves of her will make you not sleep for few days :). On other hand, Prakash Raj as Lord Shiva is big minus to this film; nor his characterization neither his performance or dialogues or attire was impressive. Comedy gang : Bramhanandam, Raghu babu, Krishna Bhagavan, MS Narayana managed to tickle the fun bones.

Damarukum Review : Direction, Music & Technical Aspects

Srinivasa Reddy had put up a great show; At no time you feel the movie was directed by a director who had never dealt with the big heroes and crossed budget of 5 Crores. His way of taking, beautiful virgin locations, the way he got performances through the artists yet kept the story as hero [Story-first approach] deserves big kudos.  Music is sole of this cinema and DSP made his 50th movie certainly memorable. You will love every song to the core in theaters. Much important than the songs is background score which is super and very much a requirement for this movie. Cinematography by Chota K Naidu is very delightful and especially songs are canned fantastically. Editing by Goutham Raju looks alright. Production values were AWESOME; except the climax, which makes you feel that team is in hurry to complete the film (Telugu: Climax Chuttesaru)

Damarukum Review : Analysis

Srinivasa Reddy came up with a simple devotional tale and successfully added all the commercial elements to it without disturbing DNA of the tale. Most important thing is he told the story in a way it should be told, such a small film director keeping the story as hero would never be possible without support from King Nag and he should be applauded for it. Cinema started with graphical representation of war between Gods and Demons, You may not want to miss this part as this forms basis for rest of the story. First half with Nag’s rug & tug attire, dialogues, Anushka’s brief appearances, Ravi Shankar scary dialogues and yes the gang of comedians group comedy elevates all the characters and establishes the complete story plot. There were many instances where audience roll in their chairs laughing-out. Action sequences and serious plot of the story start towards the interval and continue till climax. While the background music immerse you into the story completely, Lead actors performance let you enjoy the movie. Not leaving much distance between Nestama and Reppalapai songs might make you feel the songs are back-to-back, but even then they are delightful to watch. With most of the songs All the scenes where Prakash Raj was involved are biggest let down for the film, he couldn’t get the required divine emotions and never looked apt for the character of Lord Shiva. Another disappointment but quite damaging is the way how climax was handled, with the poor quality graphics and no twists around the fight sequences climax looked pale. In spite of looking grandier, one would fail to understand why RR Movies & Srinivasa Reddy, had to spend 2 years time on this movie with 40+ crore budget.
