It has been more than 18 years since Silk Smitha committed suicide, but till date no one knows why the actress took the extreme step. In a fresh twist, veteran Kannada actor Ravichandran has revealed that hours before she took her life, Smitha called him up, perhaps trying to tell the actor something which disturbed her.
Ravichandran and Silk Smitha had worked together in several hit films. Not many know that Ravichandran and Silk Smitha were close friends. The actor in his recent interview revealed that the actress called him the day before she ended her life. However, he could not reach her as he was busy shooting. On a popular Kannada TV Chat show with actor Ramesh Arvind, Ravichandran said that his only regret was that he missed Silk Smitha’s last call to him just before her death.
The actor said he was busy shooting on September 23, 1996 and felt surprise to see Smitha reaching him many times. But when he returned the call it was disconnected. Ravichandran believes Smitha, who was close to him as they shared screen space in many movies, wanted to tell "something that troubled her".
Silk Smitha was found dead at her Chennai apartment on September 23, 1996. Though no one knows the exact reason, it is believed that she was battling multiple problems, including financial crunch, disillusionment in love and severe depression.
