2014 has been very lucky for small films so far. Several small films have registered very good success so far this year. Their success is so big that there are more number of hits in small films than star films. Hrudaya Kaleyam, Prathinidhi, Kotha Janta, Oohalu gusagusalade, Run Raja Run, Lovers, Loukyam, Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya, Pooja and Karthikeya are money spinners this year.

In fact except for one or two star films, small films have brought in more profits to every one involved in the trade this year. Some of these films have brought more than one rupee profit for every one rupee invested on them. However all these films failed to rake in good numbers in Overseas territories. This situation is attributed to the piracy which is rampant online.

Usually small films do not have the pulling factor to woo the audience right from the word GO. The positive word of mouth and good reviews will have to make the audience move to theaters. But for most small films, the piracy prints are coming online just a day after the release. Before the positiveness reach the audience, the piracy prints are readily available online and they prevent them from going to theaters.

However small film makers do not see Overseas collections as their major source of income and are not taking any steps to eradicate online piracy which is resulting in the falling of revenues.
