NRI (Non-Resident Indians) who return to India 'every now and then' can purchase a home in India. The Apex Consumer commission said that they NRI's should pay around Rs.65 lakhs for a flat in Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh.


National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), presided by Justice Malik, directed the firm to pay Rs.63,99,728 to south Delhi resident Reshma Bhagat and her son, Tarun Bhagat, who had booked a flat in the builder's project in 2008. The firm opposed refund and other damages.


Earlier NRI's who come occasionally to India is unable to own a property in India. They come every now and then. The rules never apply to them. Most of the NRI's have to return to their native place at least once a year. Now any person can purchase any house in India, in his own name.


The consumer has got their free will to accept or reject flats based on their wish. The flats will be registered duly in their name. In case of individual houses, the value will be priced higher as the land value should also be taken into account.
