It is a known fact that the YSRCP boss Jaganmohan Reddy’s wave stopped the TDP sweep in not just Rayalaseema but also Nellore and Prakasam districts in the recently concluded 2014 elections. Many expected TDP to have a landslide victory but Jagan stood strong as an opposition with more than 60 seats under him. At the same time, with the ZP and MPP elections now dictating the fate of parties in rural areas it is natural that ruling parties encourage defections and win majority of Zilla Parishads in districts. It is an indication to any political party’s strength in a big election. Now, the YSRCP has delivered a strong blow to ruling party TDP in Prakasam district. Both parties have equal number of members, and an independent who was earlier with TDP stood as the ZP candidate. Suddenly since he was a rebel, he had defected to YSRCP and even as TDP tried to use its muscle and money power, Jagan’s party secured the Prakasam district Zilla Parishad, which is perceived as a sign of YSRCP’s revival.
