The government of Andhra Pradesh has announced its decision to develop a mega Information Technology hub at Visakhapatnam as part of the IT policy 2014-2020 approved by the state cabinet headed by CM N. Chandrababu Naidu. The cabinet also announced an ambitious metro rail project in the coastal city. The state government described it as a highly progressive and investor-friendly policy, which also covers IT towers, IT parks and IT zones in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The government has proposed the development of Information Technology and Investment Regions (ITIRs) at Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. A highly empowered single window clearance would be started for granting approvals and clearances with a 24x7 centralized help desk for reducing time and costs to set up business. The government also announced that IT industry would be exempted from labour laws and the Shops and Establishments Act while declaring the IT industry as essential service under essential services maintenance Act. The IT industry would be fully excluded from statutory power cuts and would be brought under Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA). With Naidu’s experience in turning Hyderabad as an IT hub, the people of AP are hoping that he may turn Vizag into a competitor for Hyderabad.
