Its known that Air India is celebrating its merger with erstwhile Indian Airlines as 'Air India Day' on Wednesday, offering tickets for Rs. 100 for a limited period. After knowing the tempting offer many people thronged to website to book their travel and Unable to handle the unprecedented traffic following the base offer, Air India's website went down on Wednesday.The site crashed minutes after it announced tickets for Rs 100. The airline website has not been functioning since midnight of 27th August.Those thrilled with the offer, went on to open the site to find two messages- 'Service unavailable and the page would not load. The sale of these tickets started from August 27 and close on August 31.However, the booking has to be done only through the airline's website and that caused the more traffic Air India was merged with Indian Airlines into one airline as Air India on August 27, 2007. Air India officials said that the airline website is hosted by National Informatics Centre and the crash was a result of NIC server problem. Officials said that the issue will be sorted by the evening.
