If the proposal indeed takes shape, then the day is not that off when devotees can travel from Tirupati to Tirumala in a monorail. Sources say that a feasibility report was reportedly sent recently by Tirupati Urban Development Authority (Tuda). This was forwarded to Union urban development ministry following which a detailed project report could be prepared. Estimated to be costing nearly Rs 9,000 crore, the monorail is being proposed from the RTC bus station in Tirupati town to Tirumala. This is expected to come up along the ghat trek route and the report says 27 km distance would be covered in 25 to 30 minutes compared to one hour by RTC bus and private vehicles. Monorail is also expected to practically minimize the accidents on the ghat road and ferries about 300 passengers at a time. The proposal is reportedly a part of the Tirupati Master Plan which is again being clubbed with the smart city proposal of the Narendra Modi government.
