Two important decisions unfolded on 17th of July, in the wake of the presidential election to be held on 19th 0f July. One of them is the decision of Trinamul Congress to go in for voting in favour of the UPA nominee, Pranab Mukherjee. To start with, Trinamul has tried to field a candidate, along with the Samaj vadi party of Mulayam Singh Yadav. But, as Mulayam made a volte face, with the decision of going with the candidature of Pranab Mukherjee, Mamata Banerjee was left in a fix as to what is to be done, till of date.  Finally, she took the ‘Painful’ decision of supporting Pranab’s candidature, as there is no other alternative left. BJP, which till of now has hoped for the support of Mamata, has been angered in this process and questioned her, as to what compulsions made her to take this decision. With this decision of Mamata, to vote in favour of him, now Pranab is expected to win the election with a huge margin.  The other development today is the decision made by the TDP to abstain from the presidential election. The party told that it could not support the candidate of the Congress party i.e. Pranab, because it is fighting against that party all along and as well could not go in for the option of the NDA candidate i.e. Sangma, as he is backed by the ‘communal BJP.’
