In a move which might be altering the IT industry friendly image of Telangana region, the state government is reportedly planning to impose a new tax on the e-commerce companies, and as expected it would be including Flipkart and Amazon.
While this proposal is expected to stir up a controversy, the government looks very well determined as it is keen for developing a policy framework that monitors all kinds of online transactions, especially that of e-commerce companies.
Talasani Srinivas Yadav reportedly said
State commerce minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav reportedly said that proposal involves setting up a common server and to ensure that no one is left out of the tax purview. The minister also reportedly complained of loopholes in the current tax policy!
Sources say that the
commercial tax department of Telangana is studying the models that are being
worked out in states like Karnataka, Kerala and Maharashtra where the
governments are proposing to impose a 1 per cent of tax on the payments by
buyers to sellers over e-commerce sites.
