Incessant rains in Chennai have troubled the people of Tamil Nadu for past two days. The rains are back and the dams are overflowing already. Lots of roads are filled with water logs and swamps. Chief Minister Jayalalitha is taking zero steps regarding the water-logs and swamps.


Now the regional weather forecasting department has said the rains will continue for another two days. Another depression has been formed at Bay of Bengal and the coastal areas are likely to face heavy showers. To avoid the overflow of dams, Chief Minister has ordered to open the dams.


Today  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha has ordered to open the Periyaar and Amaravathi dams for irrigation use. This opening of dams will help districts of Theni, Tirupur and Karur. The Tamil Nadu Government has made an official press statement regarding this . 


The press statement said. "Based on order from honourable Chief Minister, the Periyaar dam has been released and the water will be used for irrigation of crops under the PTR and Thanthai Periyar channels in Kambam Valley in Theni District. This will benefit 5146 acres. Opening of Amaravati dam would benefit 54637 acres in Thirupur and Karur districts."
