Floods in Chennai created more trouble few weeks back. Even the air services were suspended. In History of Chennai, the airport was shut down for the first time. But an optimist seems the positive side on each negative aspect. So Airport authorities have learned their lesson with respect to natural calamities.

To prevent natural calamities from grounding flights, the authorities are planning to install a backup for VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range). This equipment will help the plane to get a clear view from the sky.

Due to floods, Two VOR navigational equipments were damaged and without back up all services were cancelled. Right now one run way is clear and it was repaired. But the second run way is still pretty worse. Engineers are working round the clock to repair it.

Regarding this an official from Airports Authority of India (AAI) said, "This VOR is used as a back up for existing one and this can guide planes for a safe landing. The second runway never had any navigational aids and we are planning to install it there."
