The commissioning of  the Krishnapatnam expansion and Hinduja thermal projects is now drastically changing the power scenario in Andhra Pradesh with reports that the Southern state is becoming fully surplus in electricity.

AP will now earn the distinction of becoming the first state from South India with actually surplus power. The state will be reportedly having 500 MW surplus power even in the peak summer season according to a key report which was submitted to the state government.

The surplus power is expected to be sold during the summer for earning money. Krishnapatnam station added 800 MW to the state grid while Hinduja is all set to contribute for 520 MW by month-end. AP joining the national gas pooling scheme ushers around 430 MW every day.

Nearly 3,300 MW of capacity was kept idle as there was no natural gas and then under Babu, the state made a strategic move with the gas pooling scheme such that the regassified liquefied natural gas becomes further exchanged with the natural gas.
