State of Telangana has imposed a ban on all tobacco products. But it is just the opposite in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu is one of the worst states when it comes to Oral cancer. The reason is 'Herbal' chewing Tobacco. Experts say, that there has been 5x times increase in Oral cancer disease.
The percentage has raised from 0.6% to 3.1%. People between 15 and 34 are affected so bad due to this chewing of Tobacco. More number of youngsters have consumed gutka which is banned in 27 states.
This also includes Tamil Nadu. But none of them bothers about the ban. Small Shops and Cigarette Vendors openly sell these gutkas. Police who are busy in catching helmet-less cases are not bothering about these miscreants. There has been a huge increase in Gutka consumption.
Doctors who treat these oral cancer say that the attractive packaging and the flavours are so dangerous. They say that the tobacco which is mixed is extremely dangerous. Vidubala who is Adyar Cancer Institute psycho-oncologist said, "Chewing tobacco is not limited to adults of lower socioeconomic groups. Everyone should stop taking these Gutkas."
