Candidates for 2016 Nobel Peace Prize was announced yesterday. The 5 member Norwegian Nobel Committee received more than 200 nominations for this prestigious prize. The candidates were not revealed.


Panel members themselves also can make their own nominations during the first meeting which will take place on 29th of February. Norwegian lawmaker Audun Lysbakken nominated Nadia Murad, a Yazidi who escaped from Islamic State sexual slavery to become a spokeswoman for those who were abused by ISIS terrorists.


Lysbakken who is the leader of Norway's Socialist Left Party said, "We need a peace prize which can wake the world to fight against sexual violence as a weapon of war." She escaped after three months in captivity.


Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu has given his backing to Pope Francis and also economist Herman Daly and The Club of Rome think-tank for their significant contributions to global understanding of sustainable development. At the same time Afghani women's cycling team  was nominated by 118 Italian lawmakers.
