External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today called Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and discussed lots of regional and international issues. Ms.Sushma arrived in Colombo yesterday. She will be having a two day visit to lanka.


YK Sinha who is the High Commissioner said, "President Sirisena recalled the very warm ties that exist between the two countries build on civilization links of thousands of years. The meeting went for about an hour and two leaders discussed various issues which are undertaken by India in Srilanka.


Lots of decisions were taken during this high level visit. President expressed his satisfaction at the progress in various projects undertaken by India in Sri Lanka and the President thanked India for its assistance. Finally he discussed a host of issues."


When media buzzed whether the fishermen issue was discussed, the spokesperson never replied. The two leaders also reviewed the progress which was made at 9th Joint commission meeting. This joint commission was started in 1992 to address issues of bilateral cooperation.
