The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took a hit against Karnataka authorities for not taking action against the attackers who stripped a 21 year old Tanzanian woman in Bengaluru. This caused huge debate in India.

Police officials already reported that she was not stripped and the attack was due to a minor road mishap. But the panel sought a clear report from the state chief secretary and director general of police within two weeks.

The NHRC said, "If the contents of the reports are true, the incident is a serious violation of human rights, which includes racism." The commission's response came as authorities suspended two policemen who failed to stop the mob and not registering the complaint. Now the number of suspects went up to nine.

As there were lots of criticism, the Congress-led government has rejected the statement that it was a racial attack. The Tanzanian woman said all her three male friends were also assaulted in this incident. Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi promised that State Government will take strict action. Recently police arrested few more suspects too.
