As we all knew, Metro rail project has ate more number of time and caused more trouble to traffic. Now due to this, Teachers and Non-teaching staff of Sri Thiyagaraja college went on Hunger Strike. They protested as the college land was grabbed through land acquisition bid for Metro work.
College got a notice that 1.12 Lakh Square feet of college's land will be used for Metro's underground construction work. This will be used to connect Washermenpet and Tiruvotriyur. College authorities never agreed to this metro rail project and they were not happy in sharing the college land.
An angry staff said, "We got an immediate notice on the land acquisition. We will continue to protest unless they listen to management demands. If this happens, lots of students will be in trouble.
The route passes through college main building and if we need to agree as per their demands we should lose all our laboratories. This is practically impossible." So far Government never responded to this issue.
