A Leopard was hiding at Vibgyor school in Bengaluru yesterday morning. A cameraman and an environmentalist  were injured in this rescue operation. Along with them, four more people were injured badly. The wild animal started attacking everyone who comes on its way as it tried to escape.

It was finally captured with two tranquilizer darts. This man-animal conflict is not new as two more incidents were already reported this year. In a recent survey, the census which was conducted last year reported that there are 12000 to 14000 in the wild. This is a healthy number for the species.

The Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) stated that there were 299 leopards killed by September. 329 were killed in 2014. Most number of deaths was reported in Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

An environmentalist said, "Leopards data are gathered in tiger habitats and they were calculated on ratio of spotted cats to tigers. There are five leopards for every tiger. The results are not dependable."
