Major Varun Khajuria is one of the Siachen Avalanche survivor. He was also buried under an avalanche and he was rescued by Military. Indian Army's Major Varun Khajuria faced similar threat six years ago. The Major now shares his experience with Avalanche.

He said, "I was buried under snow and suddenly an avalanche rod (a rod inserted in snow to trace people buried in avalanche) hit my head and I was bleeding. And thanks to that, that is how the rescuers came to know I was buried. But each years many soldiers are being trapped under tons of snow.

222 soldiers who were going a training session at Afarwat were buried under avalanche on February 8th. Afarwat is a place near Kashmir's Gulmarg. Army suffered 17 casualties on that mishap.

Rescue mission alone was carried out for a week. Major Varun also received a Sena medal from the army. Major Varun says it was nothing short of a miracle that Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad survived under 25 feet of snow in Siachen for six days.
