University of Hyderabad is increasing more focus on Oral Examinations for both Under graduate and Post graduate courses. University Authority said this will be done with a motive of improving the performance of Students.

This proposal came after two months of demise of Dalit Scholar Rohith Vemula. In-Charge Vice-chancellor, M.Periyasaamy said, "I believe that students from marginalized section can perform in Oral exams than written tests.

If we reduce marks from written exams and increase them in Viva, it will help their performance. This is the final decision." The University's academic council meeting will take place on 24th of March. So right now, Students are being awarded 60% marks for Written and 40% for Internal exams.

Viva is never considered in current marking system. The In-charge vice chancellor further said that the final decision will be made after having discussions with all council members. But he made it clear that Viva will definitely be an asset for Students marks in coming exams.
