The Electronics Corporation of India has anticipated from the Election Commission to give them a contract to provide up to ten Lakhs Voter Verifiable Audit Trail (VVPAT) units , which was made by its Chairperson and Managing Director P.Sudhakar has said on Tuesday.


Based on the sidelines of the Cyber Space Defence Summit 2016 which was organized by the Computer Society of India from Hyderabad has stated that the volume was substantial and they were asked by the Election Commission to make around eight to ten Lakhs of these machines.


Sudhakar has said that the Election Commission has given a pilot order of 30,000 of such units. The Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi has said for 2019 general elections would be held through VVPAT based Electronic Voting Machines to enhance transparency.


Sudhakar has said ECIL is building with 60,000 square feet of built up space at Cherlapally to manufacture the products of VVPAT units and it is anticipated to be operational by July end this year. The ECIL has manufactured the EVM’s and have also supplied to Nepal and Bangladesh. Presently EVM’s have to be tuned and re-engineered to meet the requirements of such countries.
