On Wednesday a 60 year old car mechanic was knocked down by the Chennai bound Vaigai Express Train was running half an hour behind the schedule and was knocked down by it near Balakrishnapuram railway gate and the train was stopped immediately and as it has dragged the body of Rathinam of West Govindapuram here for a distance.
The policemen have rushed immediately to the spot and have removed his body to Dindugal Government Hospital for doing the postmortem. After half an hour the train has left the level crossing. After investigation, the police officials have said that Rathinam have committed suicide before the train as he was experiencing chest pain for long time. A case was filed and the investigation is going on.
Meanwhile as the gates were closed the gate keeper could not open the door as the train was stopped across the level crossing and the most affected are the students who are moving to write their annual exams. They were very much tensed because of the situation.
In both the side of the level crossing, the auto rickshaws, buses and school vans were stranded in both the sides. Some auto drivers who were stranded on the eastern side of the gate have requested the western side counterparts to transport the students to school without delay. Some autos have picked up the children and many others were waiting at the gate.
