Presently the DMK has made promises to convert the bi-monthly electricity bill to a monthly one will ostensibly reduce the electricity charges and it has increased some people’s hopes in this regard. But experts are saying that it will provide the consumers with significant monetary benefits.
This idea may reduce the amount which is outgoing from the family budget at a time, and it is also bound to overburden the work load of the assessors. The Tamilnadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has clearly stated that there will be no reduction in the electricity charges for those who are consuming more than 500 units.
The mandatory free power units will merely drop to half the specified amount, which is 500 to 250 units in that case. He DMK’s declaration has prompted by complaints from many that paying the electricity charges was burdensome as the assessment was carried out every two months.
The Tangedco officials have claimed that the removal of subsidy will affect only 15 Lakhs consumers during the tariff revision which was carried out in December 2014, for those who have to pay the non-subsidized tariff it is not a happy deal.
