The hundreds of MPs one by one in the lower house of congress have declared their decision at a microphone and their lengthy proceedings were watched by millions of demonstrators across the country. Nearly 352 of the 513 members in the chamber and a two thirds majority were required for the vote to pass.


Ms. Rousseff’s Workers Party have conceded the defeat before the threshold was reached and nearly 342 Yes votes has been counted and the pro-impeachment side had a majority of 215 with 38 votes which were left to be counted.


Nearly 127 have voted against her impeachment and six lawmakers have abstained and Rousseff has denied any wrongdoing and has claimed that her predecessors have also used similar accounting techniques in the past. Thousands of pro-impeachment demonstrators have celebrated as the results was broadcasted on big screens.


Meanwhile on the other side of a two meter high wall, Rousseff’s supporters watched in despair and ahs claimed that the result was a coup which is against het government. Brazil is Latin America’s largest economy and it has been struggling through its worst recession since 1930s.
