Acute shortage of drinking water followed by a drastic fall in water levels in all major reservoirs, has affected agriculture while the harsh summer has created the worst ever drought in living memory in Telangana. In a way, this is a human doing with the merciless felling of trees.

 Capital city of Hyderabad

In our country's youngest state the scarcity is not only affecting the villages and towns but also the capital city of Hyderabad, considered as a technology hub. There are reports that 35 million people mostly small farmers and farm workers are migrating to cities in other states.

At the same time the State Government is facing criticism that it has not been providing any work under NREGA scheme and no measures have been taken to mitigate this drought. Rural parts of Telangana are in distressing situation and the Authorities are not really concerned.

The criticism now making rounds is, while KCR has plans every other day for building new government buildings, new luxury villas for MLA’s and the CM has all the time for admitting MLA’s. But there is no time for taking effective drought measures in Telangana state!
