On Wednesday around 2,100 candidates have filed their nominations for the May 16 Assembly polls so far with about 1,000 candidates which includes the DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin, DMDK founder Vijayakanth, VCK leader Tirumavalavan have filed their papers.


Mr. Vijayakant, the Chief Ministerial candidate for the People’s Welfare Front, DMDK and TMC combine have filed his papers for the Ulundurpet constituency, while the front’s candidate Vasanthi Devi the former Vice Chancellor has filed her papers for Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar where she would be taking on AIADMK general secretary Jayalalitha.


The total number of candidates also includes over 240 women, meanwhile Mr. Stalin, Mr. Tirumavalavan, Puthiya Thamizhagam leader K. Krishnasamy and Manidhaneya Makkal Katchi leader M.H. Jawahirullah have filed their documents in Kolathur, Kattumannarkoil, Ottapidaram and Ramanathapuram constituencies respectively.


In some of the constituencies the candidates after filing their nominations took a pledge not to give money to voters in exchange for votes from them and all AIADMK candidates except for its leader Jayalalitha, who has filed her nomination on Monday are anticipated to submit their papers on Thursday and the last day for filing nominations is on April 29 and the day for withdrawal on May 2.
