Until Friday a total of 167 candidates have filed 197 nomination papers to contest in the upcoming polls from six assembly constituencies across the district and on the final day of nomination filing schedule, fifteen candidates have filed their nominations before Thoothukudi Sub Collector and Returning Officer, S. Gopala Sundara Raj to contest polls from Thoothukudi constituency.
In Kovilpatti constituency V.G. Radhakrishnan of Ahila Baratha Indhu Makkal Sabha has filed his nomination before Kovilpatti Sub Collector and S. A. Senthil Kumar of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has filed papers to contest from Tiruchendur constituency.
In Vilathikulam constituency S. Muniyasamy of PMK has filed his nomination before Returning Officer R. Sezhiyan. In Ottapidaram constituency P. Murugaperumal of PMK and his wife Muthulakshmi as dummy candidate have filed nominations and twelve others of various registered parties also filed their papers.
In Srivaikuntam constituency G. Lingaraj of PMK, Rani Venkatesan of Indian National Congress, D. Sankar, INC dummy candidate, K. Chinnadurai of Lok Jan Sakthi, S. Muthuramalingam of AIFB, A. Ram Mohan, BJP dummy candidate, E. Esaki of Siva Sena, R. Pattani of Naam Tamilar Katchi, R. Vasantha Kumar of Youth and Students Party and six independent candidates filed their nominations.
