Here is one glimmer of hope for AP CM Chandrababu at a time when
several BJP leaders have been speaking as if Modi has been giving funds
liberally and Babu is not working properly. A letter written by Union
Water Resources Minister, Uma Bharati to the Prime Minister’s Office has
come to the State government.
Sources say that
Modi’s PMO had sent a memo to the Water Resources Ministry over how the
expenses of Polavaram needs to be prepared in such a way that around
70% will be borne by the Center while the rest 30% will be given by the
State government.
It appears that Uma Bharati
seems to have strongly taken exception to this and she wrote a letter to
the PMO saying this is completely against the spirit of the Andhra
Pradesh Reorganization Act as well as the very definition of a National
Project. This is a good sign for AP administration.
The
Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act has recognized Polavaram Project as a
National Project and hence the Center has to bear the total expenses of
the project. This letter will also politically become liability to
Modi government. The coming days will give a clear picture.
