On Wednesday the DMK president M. Karunanidhi has promised to revive jallikattu and hold it next year if his party wins the polls. Recalling the Supreme Court ban on jallikattu in May 2014, he has charged Ms. Jayalalitha with not taking adequate steps to ensure the conduct of the sport, organized during Pongal in the southern districts  especially Madurai.

Karunanidhi was responding to AIADMK general secretary's accusation of betrayal by his party on the issue and Mr. Karunanidhi, in a statement has said that the DMK had not only monitored the proper conduct of the sport in the past, but even enacted law in 2009 for regulating it.

Karunanidhi has also added that the AIADMK President Jayalalitha has taken up the matter with the Centre seven months after the court verdict and due to this, jallikattu could not be held in 2015.

Karunanidhi has told that if a DMK government is formed, the Centre will be approached and all legal steps will be expedited and Karunanidhi has given assurance that all that jallikattu will be held from next year.
