Wrong depiction of India map could soon land violators behind bars and they can also be fined up to Rs.100 Crores. The draft Geospatial Information  Regulation Bill, 2016 states:


"Whoever depicts, disseminates, publishes or distributes any wrong or false topographic information of India including international boundaries in contravention of section 6, shall be punished with a fine ranging from Rupees ten lakh to Rupees one hundred crore and/or imprisonment for a period up to seven years."


The draft bill also makes it mandatory to take permission from a Government authority before acquiring, disseminating, publishing or distributing any geospatial information of India.The draft Bill will make it mandatory for online platforms like Google to seek a licence to run Google Maps or Google Earth in India.
