The Collector and District Election Officer M. Ravikumar here on Friday have told that all arrangements were in place for the May 16 Assembly elections in the six constituencies of the Thoothukudi district.  


While talking to media persons, he has said that the district had a total electorate of 13,79,739. Polling would begin at 7 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. No one would be allowed to conduct campaign or hold public meeting or rally after Saturday evening.


Voters who could not produce electors’ photo identity card (EPIC) could cast their votes by bringing any one of the 11 documents specified by the Election Commission and as many as 1,562 booths, manned by 8,802 staff, had been set up in the district.


Mr. Ravikumar has stated that outsiders would not be allowed to stay inside the district after 6 p.m. on Saturday and police personnel would be involved in identifying whether outsiders were staying back and he has also convened a meeting with representatives of political parties to seek their cooperation for the smooth conduct of polls.
