Well for the first time in history, the Bharatiya Janatha Party has
reportedly managed to set its foot in the North East part of the
country. The saffron party achieved a sensational victory in Assam by
securing absolute majority on its own. This is a new chapter in the
North East political history.
The party is now
hopeful that this would be opening the gates for it to expand further in
the North – East part of the country. The heartening aspect here for
BJP is that, it hasn’t only dethroned Congress but actually scored
double the seats of Congress. This indicates a strong favouring of the
voters.
Interestingly, Congress had been
winning Assam for three times in a row before this crucial election.
During 2011 elections, the party secured 78 out of the total 126 seats
in the Assam state assembly.
This time BJP won
66 seats while Congress secured only 15. Moreover illegal migration of
Muslims from Bangladesh is a sensitive issue in this region. The entry
of BJP on itself is expected to heat up the atmosphere in times to come!
Congress is going to face a challenging time ahead.
