During January month of this year, the union minister for urban development M. Venkaiah Naidu has declared the first 20 winners of the Indian cities which will be converted to smart cities on fast track with the central governance’s funds.

The places like AP, Kakinada and Vizagapatinam were made in the first round itself whereas Telangana was disappointed with no city being selected for the conversion. On May 24th, Venkaiah Naidu has declared the second list of fast track smart cities which has 13 winners.

The list includes cities like Lucknow, Warangal, Dharamsala, Chandigarh, Raipur, New Town Kolkata, Bhagalpur, Panaji, Port Blair, Imphal, Ranchi, Agartala and Faridabad. It is AP’s turn to face the setbacks as the center has left Tirupathi out of the smart cities list.

Meanwhile the smart city mission will be seeing 100 Indian cities developed as smart cities during the year 2019 to 2010 and the center will be providing sufficient funds to the tune of 48,000 crores over five years, where water and power supply, sanitation and waste management systems, efficient urban mobility and transportation are some of the highlights of the new plan
