Andhra Pradesh government is drawing up plans to meet the water requirements of the upcoming capital. Currently there are eleven lift irrigation schemes in the Capital region. Until now, these schemes are being used for irrigation purposes. Since majority of the farmers have given their lands for the capital, the water usage came down.

The government is planning to make use of these schemes for drinking water purposes. The government is planning filter beds at the schemes and will be storing this water in Overhead tanks and will be supplying the water for drinkingwater needs. The Interim Secretariat will get water from Rayapudi and Thalluru Lift schemes.

Since the schemes are closer to the farmers, drinking water can be supplied at very less cost. Very soon the government is going to approve administrative sanctions to make the changes needed. Funds will also be allocated very soon. The drinking water problem will be solved by the time employees shift to Amaravati.
