On Tuesday after nurturing a feeling of being let down for decades by successive Governments in providing the much needed irrigation facilities and scores of farmers setting aside political affiliations has  geared up to lay the foundation stone for Siddheswaram weir on Krishna river in Kurnool district as a symbolic gesture of protest.

Meanwhile Police had removed the foundation stone plaque at Siddheswaram and kept it in Muchumarri police station last night, and the Leaders of BJP, Congress, YSR Congress and Left parties, except the TDP have extended their support to the movement.

According to Mr. Dasaratharami Reddy and RJAC convenor N. Somasekhara Sarma, the weir would facilitate use of about 50 tmcft of allotted Krishna water to SRBC, Telugu Ganga, KC Canal and Handri Neeva and to utilise the Tungabhadra flood water by constructing a flood flow canal from Ramapuram near Mantralayam to Kothapalli.

Nearly 20,000 farmers in about 400 vehicles have proceeded to Sangameswaram temple along the Krishna river bed and Mr. Bojja Dasaratharami Reddy has said the farmers of the region would not forfeit their water share and would not allow usurping of Krishna water either by coastal Andhra or Telangana and the foundation stone-laying was conceived peacefully to expose the Government’s discrimination towards Rayalaseema.
