The Andhra Pradesh government will be reportedly  forced to shell out a staggering sum of  Rs 100 crore over rents alone to the private buildings located in and around Vijayawada and Guntur cities for shifting of the government offices as well as departments from Hyderabad.

Senior officials say this will be the huge sum incurred annually even if a conservative cost of Rs 25 per sq ft for office space is taken into account. The government has reportedly directed the heads of departments (HoD).

This is for renting offices for a three-year lease, which implies that it has been looking out for any permanent offices soon. The government is reportedly looking out for space of 40 lakh sq ft to shift the offices and departments from Hyderabad and hence hiring private buildings is seen as the only option.

Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao, who served as the agriculture minister under Chandrababu Naidu added that it is very unfortunate that the government is wasting so much on public money even while at a time when the state's financial health is in doldrums.
