Sources from Karaikal have stated that the Indian Coast Guard personnel rescued four fishermen who were stranded mid-sea and the fishermen are Balaji (48), Karthik (30), Shanmugam (38) and Dakshinamurthy (48) set out to sea from Poompuhar at about 3 a.m. on Sunday and were scheduled to return later in the morning.


It is stated that acting on an alert by the Coastal Security Group, Chennai, and the Indian Coast Guard personnel was led by Subash Kapoor, Deputy Commandant, conducted a search and has located the stranded boat and the fishermen off Nagore.


Meanwhile the Coast Guard personnel has  towed the boat and has brought it to Karaikal port in the evening and after setting right the technical snag, the fishermen has left for Poompuhar.


It is stated that this is the second rescue operation by the Coast Guard personnel for the second consecutive day and in a similar operation on Saturday, they had rescued 11 stranded fishermen of Nagapattinam district.
