Facing mass public outcry followed by political backlash, there are reports that TRS government would be henceforth going slow on the Mallanna Sagar irrigation project even as government sources feel that this project would have to more or less shelved finally. It is mega reservoir with a capacity to store 50 TMC ft water.

This forms part of the Kaleswaram lift irrigation scheme for which the government proposes to acquire about 16,000 acres of agriculture land in KCR’s home district of Medak. 14 villages from two mandals will be submerged while the people here are not happy at all about the compensation scheme of the government.

CM KCR who had a prolonged discussion with advisors, reportedly said that he is even open for shelving the project and make sure that the opposition parties are blamed for blocking the state from becoming a richly irrigated region.
