India's surge into the elite Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) was blocked by a country despite PM Modi's whirlwind word tour to get support for India's membership. Indian officials are extremely disappointed and USA which left no stone unturned to get India into the NSG is furious.

Now with China emerging as the only country which blocked India's entry, US is saying that the country which blocked India's NSG must be made accountable. Couple of days when US officials made clear that India will enter NSG before the end of the year, China however said it is not possible.

Now Tom Shannon, US Under Secretary for Political Affairs regretted that Washington was unsuccessful in making India a member of the nuclear club. He said in a consensus based organisation, one country can break consensus. He said the one country which blocked India's entry should be held accountable and not isolated.

Shannon says dealing with China is the major concecrn and USA wants to work with India for strong presence in the Indian Ocean.  He said India's entry into the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) proved that it is an important player.
